To be truly happy, we may have to become more moderate and accepting: in short, perhaps, more ordinary.
When those around us have bad moods, we can easily get drawn into the bad atmosphere, and become reactive. However, being reactive back usually makes the situation worse.
Why do we sometimes find it hard to be alone? Discomfort can be caused by hostile inner voices, genuine loneliness, or simply being out of the habit.
We can feel pressured by too little time, or bored by too much time. Or we can just be present. Our relationship with time reflects our relationships with others.
As we develop into wisdom, we become less automatically reactive, and more aware.
