Why do we sometimes find it hard to be alone? Discomfort can be caused by hostile inner voices, genuine loneliness, or simply being out of the habit.
Listening to our emotions, and giving them a voice, is part of our self-development. If we are feeling strange, or uncomfortable, then it may be that our mind and body are trying to tell us something.
As we develop into wisdom, we become less automatically reactive, and more aware.
“If you are a people-pleaser, then I would like you, just for today, to have a holiday from the oppression that can sometimes result from your relationship with judgers. I’d like you to do some things that work for you, in a way that works for you.”
To manage overwhelming emotions, we can get busy on distracting activities, or we can work inwardly on ourselves. Both are effective, but learning to manage our emotions inwardly may have more long-term success.
