We do not just attend to people and events in discrete blocks of time. Relating is more like a wave, moving between times of peak presence, and times of distance, like breathing in and out.
To be mentally healthy, we can learn to flow wisely from event to event.
We cause ourselves strain when we do not transition smoothly between activities. By making our actions smooth, we can encourage non-violence and wisdom.
When anxious or depressed, we can become stagnant. We need to remember exercise, learning, work and social activity.
Even the heart has a resting rate and an active rate. Our bodies are not designed to be on the go all the time. We need to learn a more natural flow.
