What would you do with the last hour you have?

A mental exercise that produces interesting results is this: imagine you have just one more hour to spend, in your whole life, on anything you like.  What would you do with that time?

It’s not an easy one to answer.  It forces the mind to consider its priorities, to work out what really matters when everything is soon to be unavailable.

Of course, in its own way, the exercise pushes life in a particular direction.  There are many things we do specifically because there is enough time.  We do trivial things today because we know we will have time tomorrow for more important things.  We take time away from expressing love today, because we trust that tomorrow we will have an opportunity to express that same love.

The exercise does, though, remind us that life is limited, and that time, when viewed as a sequence of events in a life, is limited.

So: imagine you have just one more hour to spend on this earth, in this universe.  What would you do with that time?
