Love

This is an old and very simple poem, but it bears repeating.

Love is not a thing you seek.
It is a thing you give.
Love is not in money or possessions.
It is the intention behind the flow.
Love is not words.
It is the water that makes words wise.
Without love, the universe is noise.
Love is something musical, something harmonious.
One does not carry love.
Love carries you, if you can bear to float.

GIVING LOVE

The poem remind us that if we take an attitude that love is somehow owing to us, then we will turn into greedy people who become angry and frustrated with others.  In contrast, if we take a giving attitude, then we are happier, because we expect nothing; and others may well reciprocate spontaneously.

LOVING INTENTION

Whether we are rich or poor does not matter.  What matters is the intention with which we handle what is within our control.  If we have a loving intention, then it becomes immaterial what we own, except in so far as it can help us in the act of loving.

LOVE BEHIND WORDS

We can speak all we like, but the difference is made by our intentions.  If we have selfish motivations, then our words will be shown, ultimately, to be empty.

LOVE IS HARMONIOUS

Without a compassionate intention, our minds cannot find anything in the universe to love.  Compassion, and the empathy that goes along with it, can bring elements of the universe together into a harmony which we can recognise as good.

LOVE IS THE REMOVAL OF PRECONCEPTIONS

Love is not a thing we need to create artificially, or ‘carry’ with force. Rather, by removing the obstructions to love, we become able to flow freely.

In summary, if we are  prepared to make the first move towards kindness, with good intentions, then love can bring a natural flow and harmony to all relationships.
